Radiologic Technologist: What They Do

A radiologic technologist, who can also be referred to as a radiographer, is a medical professional tasked with producing medical images of the body, commonly with an X-ray equipment, analyzing the results and referring them to physicians in order to help them make diagnosis and provide treatment for the sick and injured. Should you be interested in taking on this medical career, formal education and training is the primary requirement, which can be given by hospitals, colleges, universities and radiology tech schools.

The term radiologic technologist is a more general name for different specializations in this field of medicine. One can be a radiographer, a sonographer or therapist, among many others, and use advanced radiographic equipment for taking high quality images of the different parts of the body.

A radiologic technologist can specialize in different fields, like Diagnostic Radiography for example, which deals with taking images of the bones, cavities and other foreign objects inside the body. Sonography is another example, and makes use of ultrasound technology to render images of the body, while Radiotherapy uses radiation in eradicating or reducing the number of cancerous cells in the body. One can also take on Fluoroscopy, CT (Computed Tomography), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), Nuclear Medicine and Mammography.

Before a radiologic technologist can take images of a patient’s body for diagnosis, he first makes sure that patients are prepared for the examination by briefing them on the imaging procedure that they are about to undergo. X-rays are very commonly used, and these professionals make sure jewelries and other interfering objects are removed from the patient. They also help minimize exposure of patients to radiation by providing them with protective apparatus like lead shields.

Radiographers also make sure that the radiographic equipment to be used is well aligned at the proper angle and height over the patient’s body which is about to be scanned. Using a tool which resembles a measuring tape, the technologist is able to measure accurately just how much area in the body needs to be scanned and control the equipment in order to get images that have the best detail, contrast and density. With X-rays, a film is set below the body part to be scanned and after developing the film, it is then sent for analysis by the radiographers and doctors.

Energy Alternative

There are numerous good reasons to conserve energy. If we use less gas, oil and electricity we will cut costs, and the pollution linked to extracting and taking advantage of fossil fuels will decrease especially with Biomass Energy. Reducing greenhouse gas production could help to reverse our planets atmosphere. The bottom line is – an alternative has both personal and societal benefits.
A lot of people are concerned with making their funds last longer and energy conservation may help by minimizing our energy costs. Homeowners can perform lots of things to cut down on their energy needs. Perhaps the best thing they might do to would be to install greater insulation to retain warm and cool air.

Heating and air conditioning are classified as the biggest energy consumers of the average household. Much of the heat and cool air escapes because of poorly insulated roofs, walls, doors, and windows. Actually in a huge number of cases heating and cooling accounts for around 50% of your energy costs. Improving insulation will result in greater conservation of energy and lesser energy costs. Small changes in this region may result in dramatic reduction in your monthly payment to your utility company.
Using alternative energy sources including solar panels or Alternative Energy Wind can greatly reduce the amount of energy needed from traditional sources. The electricity created by these devices may be fed back in to the local power grid if it is not immediately used by the household. This reduces the power bill even more (the power meter runs backwards) while supplying clean power for your community.

Traditional bulbs are inefficient because much of the energy they use is transformed into heat. Replacing your incandescent bulbs with compact florescent bulbs will give you the identical level at light with less energy consumption. Though the price tag on these bulbs is greater than traditional bulbs, they last up to 20 times longer, leading to significant overall savings.
The application of an Energy Alternative is not just for homes, cars and trucks can be obtained with more energy-efficient engines and several can operate on alternate power sources such as hydrogen or electricity.
Conservation of energy is something that everybody is able to contribute to. When you are careful in how we use our resources we are building a society for our little ones and grandkids.
